Nayyirah Waheed & Circumstances

The poem goes a little like this:

Where
you are,
is not
who
you are.

- Circumstances

The poem here talks about the idea that through life we go through many different challenges and through many different ups and downs. Just because you have a good patch, doesn't mean you are  more superior to anyone else, or that your life is better than the girl next to you. - each day something could change and your circumstances can do a full 360 degree flip.

The same is for when you're down. If you are having bad luck with a bad set of runs this does not at all make you a failure. You are not defined by your mistakes or by your circumstances.

The power is within you, you can change at any time. If. you are born into a family with no money and parents that have no support techniques to offer you, this does not mean these circumstances define you as an individual. You have the power to change your story and change your future.

The power is in the mind, the force of positive energy is crucial to moving forward. When one is able to look forward and identity themselves as someone that has moved passed their hard times, those will be the most successful of all people.

- realize that where you are in the world, or what situation you find yourself in, that does not mean you automatically turn into that person.

I like to think that who I am as a person, is what I will make of a horrible situation
